Theo de Feyter befasst sich mit der malerischen Vermessung von Zeit. Die ungewöhnliche Perspektive des niederländischen Archäologen und Malers wendet sich bewusst ab vom tradierten Motiv hin zur stringenten Dokumentation von scheinbar Banalem. Nicht Idealisierung sondern eine realistische Rasterung unseres kulturellen Kontextes ist de Feyters Thema und das der aktuellen »Zwischenlandung«, der Reihe von Gastvorträgen internationaler KünstlerInnen im Museum am Ostwall. »Es geht dabei um eine Art Gleichbehandlung aller wiederkehrenden Elemente in der Art einer verlässlichen Sprache, die der Betrachter lesen kann.«

Theo de Feyter deals with the means of measuring time using painting. The unusual perspective of the Dutch archaeologist and painter consciously turns away from the traditional motif, towards a strict documentation of seeming banalities. Not the idealisation but the realistic resolution of our cultural context is the current topic of de Feyter and will be dealt with in „Zwischenlandung“, a lecture series of internationally renowned artists at the Museum am Ostwall. „This is about the equality in treatment for recurring elements in a reliable language, that the viewer can read.“

Theo de Feyter ist Künstler, Nahostspezialist und ausgebildeter Archäologe. Erst kürzlich ist ein umfangreiches Buch von ihm über Syrien erschienen. (Syrië. Een geschiedenes in ontmoetingen en plaatsen. Amsterdam 2008) Theo de Feyter wird einige seiner Malereiprojekte vorstellen. In der fortlaufenden Bilderserie ‘Mein Ausblick um 17.00 Uhr’ malt er tagein, tagaus, was sich ihm beim Blick aus seinem Atelierfenster bietet. Bei den beiden Projekten ‘Luftlinie’ (Düsseldorf 2005) und ‘Hemelsbreed’ (Amsterdam 2009) verbindet er historische Stadtkerne mit Neubauvierteln. Es geht dabei immer wieder um die Frage, was es wert sei, festgehalten zu werden, um das alte Themas des “Pittoresken”, um das Sublime und das Banale in der Malerei.

Theo de Feyter is an artists, expert of Middle Eastern studies and archaeologist. He recently published a book on Syria. (Syrië. Een geschiedenes in ontmoetingen en plaatsen. Amsterdam 2008) He will present some of his painting projects. In the ongoing series „Mein Ausblick um 17.00 Uhr “ he daily paints the view from his studio window. In his projects „Luftlinie “ (Düsseldorf 2005) and „Hemelsbreed“ (Amsterdam 2009) he connects historical city centres with newly built areas. Usually the focus lies on what is worth depicting, which is an established topic in painting along with the sublime and the banality in painting.

Anne Bevan

 «A North Light – Cynosure» nennt die schottische Künstlerin Anne Bevan aus Edinburgh ihren Beitrag zu Zwischenlandung, der Reihe von Gastvorträgen internationaler KünstlerInnen im Museum am Ostwall in Dortmund. Anne Bevan arbeitet und forscht an den Phänomenen der Alltagswelt mit einem Cross Over von Skulptur und Installation, von Kunst und Wissenschaft. “We could call it after the show in Orkney which this work ‚Nova‘, is made for: A North Light Cynosure. That would relate to the whole navigating Wanderweg theme too.“

Vita

Anne Bevan wurde 1965 in Orkney geboren und ist nun ansässig in Edinburgh, wo sie als Künstlerin arbeitet und am Edinburgh College of Art unterrichtet.

Einzelausstellungen mit Veröffentlichungen umfassen Lifting Light – Pier Art Centre, Stromness, undercover & Pipelines – Fruitmarket Gallery, Edinburgh und Rosengarten – Hunterian Museum, Glasgow (2004). Sie arbeitet oft kollaborativ, vor allem mit der Autorin Janice Galloway.

Ward Shelley

Ward Shelley ist ein in Brooklyn, New York arbeitender Künstler. Er hat sich auf Großprojekte spezialisiert, die Skulptur und Performance vereinen. Durch die Tatsache, dass er vielseitige Einflüsse und umfassende Mittel verwendet, ist keine Klassifikation möglich. In den letzten fünf Jahren konzentrierte sich Shelley auf bizarr funktionierende architektonische Stücke, in denen er lebt und arbeitet mit live Überwachungs- Video Ausrüstung.

Er wuchs in Miami auf und arbeitete dort als Künstler. Nach dem Bachelor am Eckerd College erlangte Shelley seinen Master Abschluss an der NYU und stellt seitdem in New York aus. Seit dem er 1994 nach Williamsburg zog, sind seine Werke ebenfalls in Europa und mittlerweile in über 10 Ländern zu sehen. Unter den Arbeiten der letzten fünf Jahre wird besonders New Yorkern das Video Environment “the Cube”, das legendäre Mir 2 Project, und die Voyage Platform ein Begriff sein. Seit kurzem lebt und arbeitetet Shelley in den Wänden der Pierogi Gallery für fünf Wochen für eine Ausstellung namens „We have mice“. Shelley hat auch mit der Künstlergruppe BBS zusammengearbeitet und einem weiteren talentierten jungen Künstler namens Douglas Paulson. Im Jahr 2005 bis 2006 war Ward Shelley als fellow der American Academy in Rom zu Gast. Unter anderem erhielt er NYFA und NEA fellowships in Skulptur und Neue Medien, einen Bessie Award für Installationskunst, sowie private Förderungen der Jerome Foundation und der Pollock-Krasner Foundation. Repräsentiert wird er von der Pierogi Gallery in New York. Vor und während seiner Kunstkarriere arbeitete er auch im Bereich der Werbung, im Baugewerbe, als Lehrer, im Eventbereich, für das Theater, spielte in einer Rock Band und baute ein über 11 Meter langes Segelboot.

Ward Shelley works as an artist in Brooklyn, New York. He specializes in large projects that freely mix sculpture and performance. Utilizing eclectic influences and a variety of media, Shelley’s installations defy classification. Over the last five years, Shelley has concentrated on bizarre functioning architectural pieces in which he lives and works during the exhibition monitored with live surveillance video equipment.

He grew up and exhibited as an artist in Miami. BA at Eckerd College but earned his Masters degree from NYU and has been working and showing in New York since then. He moved to Williamsburg in 1994 and also began exhibiting in Europe at that time.
Shelley has exhibited in more than 10 countries. Among works from the last five years familiar to New Yorkers are the interactive video-environment “the Cube”, the legendary Mir 2 Project, and the Voyage Platform. Very recently Shelley lived and worked inside the walls of Pierogi Gallery for 5 weeks for an exhibition called “We have mice”. Shelley also works with the collaborative artist group
BBS and a talented young artist named Douglas Paulson.
Ward Shelley will be staying at the American Academy in Rome as a 2005-06 Fellow. He has received NYFA and NEA fellowships in sculpture and new media categories, a Bessie Award for
installation art, as well as private foundation grants from the Jerome Foundation and the Pollock-Krasner Foundation. He is represented by Pierogi Gallery in Brooklyn, New York.
Before and during his art career he has also worked in advertising, construction, teaching, special events, theatre, rock bands, and built a 37-foot sailing sloop.
