Cornelius Völker

„Cornelius Völkers Kunst ist eine Gratwanderung zwischen den Polen Abstraktion und Gegenstand, zwischen Material und Mimesis, zwischen Thema und Komposition – eine Malerei, die konzeptuell in hohem Maße anspruchsvoll und medial selbstreflexiv ist und gleichzeitig mit größter Lust an Farbe agiert. So gesehen läßt sie sich für Verfechter der konzeptuellen und analytischen Kunst ebenso reklamieren wie für Anhänger einer barocken Sinnlichkeit. Was auf den ersten Blick ein unvereinbarer Widerspruch zu sein scheint, ist bei Cornelius Völker Programm.“

“The artworks of Cornelius Völker can be characterized as a balance between the two poles of abstraction and concrete matter, between material and mimesis, between topic and composition. It is painting that is conceptually highly demanding as well as self-reflexive, but at the same time strongly expresses desire for colour. From that point Völker’s  work appeals to defenders of conceptual and analytic art as well as for advocates of baroque sensuality. What seems to appear as an incompatible contradiction can be regarded as a recurring motif for Cornelius Völker“
